How to gracefully and securely issue passwords is a technical design issue that I still have to work out.

Mother's maiden name won't work as it written all over the site.

How about asking questions that only a 'real' relative would know the answer to?

I am thinking we will simply ask each friend and relative to formerly register - only once - and then issue each person their own ID and password.
